As you are all probably aware, the COA/CCCAA uses NCAA rules to govern their sports unless otherwise specified in COA/CCCAA constitution Constitution, By-Laws, Supplements, Sport Guides, etc. The NCAA is adopting a concussion rule that allows the referee discretion to remove a player that they suspect has sustained a concussion. After discussions with both the NCFA and the SCFA (and consultation with the officials group), the implementation of this will essentially be status quo. The officials have often stopped the game for an injured player with any injury, and if this was done, the player had to leave the field for evaluation by the athletic trainer/physician. It will be the same now. Once a player is removed due to a suspected concussion it will be up to us/our physician to determine if they have indeed suffered a concussion and if they can return to the game. We will not be asked to notify the officials. so the procedures you have always utilized to return a player to the game will should still be utilized. If you have any questions or if the rule appears to be implemented differently, please let the CCCATA President, Mike Chisar, know.
