Honoring Eric Imrie’s Life
The California Community College and Athletic Training communities are mourning the passing of Lassen College Head Athletic Trainer Eric Imrie. Eric passed away from health complications on Sunday November 15. Eric has been the Head Athletic Trainer at Lassen College for the last 10 years. Prior to that, Eric worked at College of the Redwoods, Arcata High School and with numerous amateur athletic organizations including the Humboldt Crabs baseball team and with Volleyball Festival around the country. Eric earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology – Athletic Training Emphasis from Humboldt State University.
Professionally, Eric is revered for his commitment to the health and safety of his athletes and teams. He is particularly recognized for building an outstanding system of medical care at Lassen College from the ground up, taking a school from one that often struggled to secure consistent medical services to one with exemplary care that supported the success of their athletic programs. Eric is also recognized for his service as the Golden Valley Conference Rep to the California Community College Athletic Trainers’ Association (CCCATA). His commitment to his athletes and to athletic training in the state of California are commendable. His contributions will be sorely missed.
More profoundly, Eric had a tremendous personal effect on his athletes, colleagues and friends. He was an honored member of the United States Marine Corps. He was extremely proud of his time at Humboldt State, both for the tremendous education and for the great friends he met there. He proudly displayed his National Championship ring awarded for his work with the Softball team in 2008. A true competitor, Eric loved athletics and worked diligently to give his athletes the best chance to achieve success. He relished in their success on and off the field. Perhaps the strongest statement to who he was comes from his good friend Nate Kees (College of the Redwoods) who said, ” I didn’t have another friend like E. He was THAT dude. And I think he was like that for a lot of us. “
The CCCATA offers its condolences to Eric’s mother Julie, a frequent attendee to Athletic Training conferences with whom many of us shared a laugh. The hearts of the Athletic Training community are with you in this difficult time. We celebrate and honor Eric Imrie with fond memories and a reverent respect.
