College/University Athletic Trainers’ Committee Awards

The College/University Athletic Trainers’ Committee has established several awards to recognize collegiate athletic trainers who have demonstrated exceptional performance in their setting.
Award Eligibility
- NATA member in good standing
- Current BOC certification
- At least 75% of current job responsibility must involve primary coverage and care of collegiate athletes
- Additional award-specific criteria
Head Athletic Trainer of the Year
Each year the College/University Athletic Trainers’ Committee recognizes one individual for exceptional performance as a head athletic trainer in each of the following collegiate divisions: NCAA D1, NCAA D2, NCAA D3, NAIA and Junior College/Community College. Award recipients are actively involved in their community or campus, athletic training associations and promotion of the profession.
Criteria
- Currently employed as a full-time Head Athletic Trainer (or equivalent) in a collegiate setting
- Professional experience in a collegiate setting (does not have to be continuous or at the same institution)
- Experience as Head Athletic Trainer (or equivalent)
Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year
The College/University Athletic Trainers’ Committee recognizes one individual each year for exceptional performance as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Award recipients are actively involved in their community or campus, athletic training associations and promotion of the profession.
Criteria
- Currently employed as a full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer (or equivalent) in a collegiate setting
- Professional experience in the collegiate setting (does not have to be continuous or at the same institution)
Above and Beyond Award
The Above and Beyond Award recognizes one athletic trainer or one instance of care in the collegiate setting for exceptional performance in athletic training or non-athletic training activities occurring in the past year. Past recipients have administered life-saving measures, developed major programs or initiatives at their institution or led service projects that have had a lasting impact on the community.
Criteria
- Currently employed in the collegiate setting as head or assistant athletic trainer, graduate assistant or intern athletic trainer
New Horizon Award
The New Horizon Award recognizes one athletic trainer in the collegiate setting who has demonstrated the attributes of a future leader in the profession. Award recipients are actively involved in their community or campus, athletic training associations and activities promoting the profession.
Criteria
- Currently employed full-time in the collegiate setting
Professional experience in the collegiate setting (does not have to be continuous or at the same institution).
