Under the direction of the Athletic Director, assist with developing and implementing health services for the care and prevention of injuries to student-athletes; administer first aid and emergency medical care; assist with administering rehabilitation of injuries.
- Receive and review student-athlete health history records; inform coaching faculty of health problems; maintain formal, confidential student-athlete health records.
- Assist physicians with pre-participation screening exams of student-athletes; communicate with coaches, staff, and student-athletes of scheduled exams;
- Advise student-athletes with health or injury problems and make referrals to health agencies; decide, in absence of team physician whether a student-athlete is medically able to participate in practice and return to competition;
- Identify and treat athletic related injuries; returns student-athletes to the field of competition as soon as is safe.
- Review athletic insurance coverage and assist student-athletes in the correct submission of insurance forms; complete medical insurance forms.
- Maintain medical usage records and prepare reports; maintain accurate and detailed injury and treatment reports; communicate with coaches regarding the welfare of student-athletes; administer first aid and/or CPR as required;
- Serve as athletic trainer for team practices and athletic events; provide instruction regarding aspects of injuries, reconditioning and nutrition.
- Assist with preparation of written policies and procedures regarding emergency management, treatment and reconditioning of injured student-athletes.
- Tape and otherwise prepare student-athletes for daily practices and competition; cover home athletic contests and travel with team for required athletic contests.
- Maintain training room area in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition.
- Assist with budget development; recommend and administer functional budgets for first aid supplies and equipment.
- Inspect playing fields and athletic equipment; note and report health and safety hazards to appropriate authorities and personnel.
- Maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with others including student-athletes, athletic trainers, coaches, parents, physicians and health center personnel.
- Read, interpret, apply and explain rules regulations, policies and procedures related to athletic training and health services.
- Assist with issuing and proper fitting of athletic equipment, laundry of cloth, and other duties with in the equipment/laundry room; drive a vehicle to conduct work.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Master’s Degree in Athletic Training, Physical Education, Health, Kinesiology, or related field.
- 4 years of professional experience related to duties and responsibilities of the classification.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
- Valid National Athletic Trainer certification or equivalent.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Indoor and outdoor work environment.
- Evening or variable hours.
- Subject to seasonal heat, cold or adverse weather conditions.
- Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate athletic equipment and tape students.
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
- Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students.
- Seeing to monitor student activities.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects as assigned by the position.

After the preliminary screening, selected candidates will be invited to the campus for an initial interview with the Search Committee. At the discretion of the District, videoconference interviews (in lieu of an in-person initial interview) may be offered. Candidates to be interviewed will be selected from applicants who most closely meet the minimum and desired qualifications. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview. The Search Committee will recommend a slate of finalists to the Superintendent/President for a final interview.
